SURING AREA PUBLIC LIBRARY INTERNET USE POLICY


The Suring Area Public Library (SAPL) offers Internet access to patrons in order to help fulfill it's mission of providing quality educational, cultural and recreational information to the public.  SAPL is not responsible for, nor does it vouch for, the content of material found on the Internet. Users of the Internet should be aware that they may encounter material that is inaccurate, controversial or offensive.  The users of SAPL computers to access the Internet must comply with SAPL Internet Use Policies. Failure of users to comply with SAPL Internet Use Policies will result is the suspension of the user from SAPL computers for a time period to be determined by SAPL Staff.

Patrons must have their own valid library card and pin number established each time they use the computer.  Patrons who have fines of $5.00 or more or whose patron registration has expired must check in at the circulation desk; they will be directed to do so when attempting to log on to a patron use computer.   Out of state visitors must present their valid drivers license at the circulation desk to obtain a visitor pass.

  3. Patrons must be 18 years or older to use the Internet. Patrons aged 13-17 must have on file an Internet Use Consent Form signed by a parent or guardian. Patrons under the age of 13 need to be accompanied by their parent or guardian (who must sign on for the child) while using the Internet. SAPL is not responsible for Internet access gained by persons who deliberately attempt to circumvent library policies.

  5. Users will have one half hour of use per sign in session. They may have additional time if no one else is waiting, up to a maximum of 2 hours per day.  SAM will automatically renew their time, if eligible, if no one is on the waiting list for computer use.  No time slot nor particular computer will be reserved for any patron.
  6. A maximum of two people may use a terminal together; library staff retains the option to reduce this to one if disruptions occur.

  8. Patrons may only use computer software and hardware that is provided by SAPL.

  10. Any electronic application using sound will require the use of headphones provided by SAPL.
  11.  
  12. It is strictly prohibited for any person to make changes to or to alter in any way the library's computer hardware, software or network configurations.  Doing so will result in immediate termination of the patron's computer privileges.

  14. Accessing "chat rooms" is strictly prohibited.
  15.  
  16. Accessing sites that may be construed by the public or SAPL staff as obscene or harmful to minors is strictly prohibited.

  18. SAPL staff has the right to monitor patron use of computers and the Internet to insure proper compliance with its Internet Use Policies.

  20. Any person who misuses the SAPL computers or Internet will have their privileges suspended.
